Winter Solstice

I spent all day today thinking about how today was the shortest day of the year, signifying the end of things. Really, though, it's not. Even though the green is gone from the leaves and the grass, and the flowers (with the exception of pansies) aren't blooming, there are still things beginning. Besides, everything that has a beginning has an end which feeds new beginnings.

Some things which are coming to ends, are this:

...and yes, I am on the last stripe of the shawl, and it does take up the width of my bed. This will make a nice, warm shawl for someone.

Also, in a brief moment of weakness, I knit (pdf) this hat:















There are more details about the hat than are currently available to blog readers, but shall be given shortly...say...after the 25th of December.
