Some Summer Sky

So...I know I didn't post anything last week, even though I had finished projects piling all around me. How could I though, when I was looking at this face?

Meet Penelope (or Penny), our newest addition to our home. She came to us from the Oklahoma Saint Bernard Rescue. Fae had been talking to me about Saints for awhile, since we were looking for another dog that was more indoors than outdoors and much more low key than our past experiences with dogs. Penelope is 2 years old, already house-trained (I don't like to say 'broken', I think it sounds awful), not cat-aggressive (Freya thanks us for this), great with children and wants nothing more than to slobber all over us. She's perfect. She's already fitting in really well in our household. She makes an excellent in-home speed-bump. See?

We took her to PetSmart today, and she did really well-she loves to ride in the car, and was extremely gentle around all of the small children who wanted to pet her.

What's this you say? You want MORE finished projects to make up for not posting last week? Well, I just so happen to be prepared for this scenario.

Check out my Flame Wave socks from Interweave Knits Favorite Socks book. I started these a really long time ago, but I've been slowly working my way through my WIP bin, and decided to start with unfinished socks. The only lonely sock that I have now is my Monkey, but it's still fairly recent.

Speaking of which, I went through my WIP bin and reclaimed yarn that was rescueable and tossed others, and there are only 5 items in it right now. I had things in my bin that I'd brought over to the apartment and then to our house that I started on 5 years ago! I didn't even remember what they were!

To reward myself, I bought some Claudia's Handpainted Yarns 100% silk laceweight in the 'Stormy Days' colorway from Gourmet Yarn Co. I may or may not re-attempt another photo shot of it-silk is hard to photograph, and it kept glaring in the light.

So maybe at this point you've noticed I haven't said anything at all related to the name of the post. So it's been really cold, cloudy and rainy the last day or so, and I've been dreaming about those warm summer days.

I've been dreaming about them in my finished shrug. The pattern is Dream in Color Shrug from, you guessed it, Dream in Color Yarn. I knit it in their colorway of Some Summer Sky.

I absolutely love it. The yarn, Classy, from the same place, was absolutely the softest, sproingiest wool I've knit with in a long while, and the colors are so rich.

It's definitely a great reminder of summers past as we enter into late fall.

Oh, and btw, I do have another finished project to show you, but as it's a gift, I can't show it to you just yet. You'll just have to wait. ;)

Penelope says that she's going to follow me into the craft room to see what else I'm up to.

That may be the sweetest face I've ever seen (as I type this, I'm shielding the screen with my body, lest Tinkerbell see me lusting after another dog). Congratulations on the addition to your family.
